Plot
The plot is very, very interesting. And the way the mystery unravels and things are put together will have you on your toes all the way. For that alone The Heritage deserves its heart score.
However, the confession at the end left me a little lost. It came almost too easy, the reason and the way it happened sounding a little unconvincing. Up to then, the whole mystery had me at the edge of my seat and seriously engaged.
Characters
The characters are well defined and interesting. And I don’t know if it's because it's a fast-paced, short novel - novellas normally sacrifice something to be succinct, but some of the characters’ interactions, especially in between the two protagonists, just seemed a tad off. The conversations taking a tone that didn’t flow or sound very natural.
Romance & Smut Score
The sex scenes were another case. I’m all for reading about a good ‘get down and dirty’ moment, but there are ways in which to deliver those with elegance while still giving plenty of detail and leaving the reader in need of a cold shower. Being very straight to the point and factual about it makes it erotic, but it also makes it sound too much like porn. Personally, I found the instances where she watches him doing his thing a lot more tantalizing than the actual sex scenes. It drips attraction and the promise of a fantastic chemistry. Sometimes that idea is sexier than the actual act.
Writing
The writing flows nicely with very few hiccups and the story has two climaxes, which is great.
All around, a really enjoyable read for anyone that likes fast-moving thrillers with a hint of romance.
