Writing Life: My First Ever Book Tour

Updated: Dec 2, 2025

This is the other side of the coin when you’re an authorpreneur… the anxiety.

I asked 56 creators to review my book and be honest about what they thought.

27 of them, across 7 countries, said yes.

It sounded like a good idea at the time. Now, as the tour is one week away, I’m crapping my pants.

And of course, organizing an event (even a virtual one) comes with its own perils…

  • Order all your supplies ahead of time. ALWAYS have extras.

  • ALWAYS check the address to make sure the press pack is indeed going to the right place.

  • Expect international book boxes to cost over £20 to be sent. (Ouch! My very small business account hurts!)

  • No, eBooks are just not as sexy for the Gram.

  • Don’t bank on the forgiveness of the British weather. She’s bipolar.

  • Don’t bank on the poorly paid delivery driver wanting to attempt a second delivery or leaving your precious cargo in a dry place.

  • Environmentally friendly cardboard boxes are no match to the weather – wrap it in plastic (sorry!).

  • Resign to the fact that 10% of your press packs will have to be resent.

  • Don’t just ask creators/influencers to do things for you, engage with them. Follow them, like their posts, comment on their stuff. Be part of the community.

Have a book tour, they said; it’ll be fun, they said. It’s good for your marketing, they said.

Well… I’m about to find out. Get the popcorn and the wine. This is going to be good. Either amazingly good, or catastrophically, Hollywood crash-and-burn, good.

Here is a list of the amazing creators who agreed to be my victims. Please show them some love, I could be torturing them.

Are you ready? Good, good… cause I’m not. 😬

Oh, I believe in my book. I do. So much so that I published it. I wrote what I wanted to read. And I honestly believe that it will take you on a trip to Brazil, get you hot under the collar, and make you cheer and cry with the main characters.

But let’s be honest about this, I’m bias. So wish me luck and let’s hope my nerves can take it.

It's ok (chants to self). When I get signed by Netflix for a TV series we will all laugh about the desperation on this post. 😊
