Nestled in Heswall, Wirral, Linghams Booksellers is full of character - think beamed ceilings and cottage vibes. It’s also incredibly deceptive and it goes back quite a way from the entrance. So don’t let its modest, unassuming front fool you.

As a large independent bookstore, Linghams offers a serious selection of genres. Looking for some practical guidance? Here, you’ll find books about travel, food & drink, sport, health & beauty, gardening, walking, and even maps and atlases.
Knowledge is more your thing? Then try the transport, science, education, languages, politics, religion and history sections for size. They even offer an array of books on local history. Prefer non-fiction? The biographies, humour and poetry sections might be up your alley.
And if, like me, fiction is your poison, then you’ll be spoiled for choice perusing the crime, classics, fantasy, horror and sci-fi sections. Linghams is also the only bookstore I have been to that hosts a dedicated New Adult section.
Came with your mini me in tow? That’s ok. They have a large Children’s Lit and Young Fiction area as well as a coffee shop. If you time it well, you might even catch one of their Workshops for Children events.
Linghams Booksellers also offers more than just books. I say "just books" with a little caveat. You and I know "just books" would be more than enough. Well... We like a coffee shop too. Books, coffee and cake... Hmm.... Focus! (Slaps cheek) I digress. Extras include stationery, gifts and games as well as an array of events hosted both in store and in other venues around the area, attracting big names in all genres.
The Saturday I visited, the store was full to the bream with people of all ages. The coffee shop was buzzing and it honestly felt just like visiting a big chain bookshop in the centre of Liverpool. I can’t wait to visit in the summer, when I’m assuming their outside sitting area is open. Set back from the main road, it’ll be a great place to have a coffee, read and bask in the summer sun.
